One of the coolest parts about kitesurfing is the constant need to discover spontaneously new spots. Those casual wind-chasing moments wherever you are.
Around Midsummer we were again in Saaremaa. As we had the unexpected heatwave in Estonia this summer, then the chances of finding some wind were quite poor. But we didn’t want to give up – we have 5 days off and there has to be wind somewhere.
This desire led us to a completely new spot near Tirbi. Tirbi is a small village in Vätta peninsula near Kuressaare, the capital of Saaremaa. It ends with a nature reserve and has a tiny nice private beach. The beach is perfect for rigging and sunbathing if you have children along. There’s also a nice table set for picnic 🙂
The spot is not ideal for kiting as the bottom of the sea is quite rocky in the beginning. So be aware not to do any silly tricks close to the shore! However, when you kite a bit further out, there are no more rocks and you can kite freely.
The spot is almost flat – no chop, no big waves. This makes it a perfect spot to cruise.
It’s suitable for kiting with W, SW and NW winds. However, NW might be a bit gusty, because the wind comes across land.
A few days when we kited over there, we were the only ones on that beach. Some locals came for a quick swim, but otherwise kiting all alone.
Definitely not our favourite spot, but another spot where to go kiting close to our home in Saaremaa.
