How did we end up in the most loved women’s magazine in Estonia?
Triin had received several missed calls from one number, when we were on our vacation in Turkey. As we were on holidays, Triin refused to pick up any calls. But as there were so many calls from the same number, then Triin thought maybe it’s really that important and gave a call back. All of a sudden it was the journalist from Estonia’s biggest women magazine Anne ja Stiil who said: “We would like to make an article about cool Estonian women who kitesurf and we would like to feature there you and your friend.” – SAY WHAAT?!?!
At the same time we were playing on the beach in Turkey. It was quite unexpected as we consider ourselves no ones in kitesurfing – we do not stand out with our skills, we don’t do any remarkable tricks, we haven’t won any cool prizes (except the one where Anne-Mai won the Estonian Championships in twin tip race back in 2019). But this is exactly what the magazine was looking for – ordinary women who share passion for kitesurfing, have their daily everyday life with families and work. Women who do not practice kitesurfing as professionals and are easy to relate to for the readers.
Of course, we said YES to this opportunity. Who wouldn’t? The idea for us to give that interview was to inspire other women to take up kitesurfing and chase your dreams because everything is possible. And what better platform for it could we have if not the most known and read women magazine in Estonia?
Online turned into print
Initially we were supposed to have an online article, not the print versions. But as the story came out so good, the editor decided it’s print worthy. The second time we just wanted to scream – SAY WHAAT?!?!
This, of course, meant that we were going to have a proper photoshoot on the beach to have quality photos. The magazine sent one of the best portrait & editorial photographers to take pictures of us Krõõt Tarkmeel. So, there we were – on the beach ready to have our shots taken. Must say here that it was during the heatwave, so spending time even in the lightest wetsuit was horrific – you could literally feel sweat running down your back when you we’re holding the “keep smiling” face for who knows how long 🤷♀️ But as they say – beauty requires sacrifices!
We most definitely got very beautiful and cool pictures taken. We asked Krõõt to take some extra for ourselves as a nice memory. Just love how the professionals work – a bit of guidance how to stand, where to look and BOOM! There you go!
As the article was going to August’s issue, then we had to wait a bit for the coverage to appear. When the article came out, we were so excited. At the time we were in Hiiumaa, so visiting the shop daily to see if the magazine had reached Hiiumaa already. And when we found the new issue, how exciting was that!
The article was also published online, so you can have a look HERE.
The aftermath of the publication was cool – receiving messages from our friends and families about the article. Anne-Mai was even asked to sign a couple of copies in case she would become a celebrity….
Definitely a cool experience and so thankful for the opportunity!
